The Sixers looked to be in good shape as NBA 2K23 ratings slowly trickled out last week. Now, let's look at the ratings of the 76ers' starting five; they boast a group that is extremely tough to beat.
Joel Embiid – 96 (Last year: 95)
It's not a surprise that Joel Embiid is among the highest-rated players in the game. He averaged 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 68 games from 2021-22. The two-time MVP runner-up boasts an 81 3PT rating – close to the best among centers – and an 80 dunk rating. I expect his rating to climb as well as he continues to dominate the NBA. James Harden – 89 (Last year: 94)
James Harden's rating took a significant hit from last season, perhaps based on his up-and-down performance in the regular season and the playoffs. He still boasts a strong 3PT rating (80) and is among the highest-rated "fourth wheel" players in the NBA. He averaged 22.0 points, 10.3 assists, and 7.7 rebounds in 65 games in 2021-22. I'm as big a fan of The Beard as anybody, and we should be confident that an entire off-season of working out and rehabbing that hamstring will lead to better, more consistent play on the court.
Tyrese Maxey – 85 (Last year: 76)
Tyrese Maxey had a huge jump in his rating this year, and rightfully so. His massive playoff performances served as one of the few highlights of the 2022 playoffs. He averaged 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.2 rebounds in 75 games in 2021-22. His 85 rating for 3pt-shooting – on par with James Harden – is bound to go up this season.
Tobias Harris – 82 (Last Year: 85)
Tobias Harris' rating took a hit last year, but he still boasts a strong 3PT rating (80) and is among the highest-rated "4th wheel" players in the NBA. He averaged 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 73 games in 2021-22.
P.J. Tucker – 77 (Last year: 74)
P.J. Tucker, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound power forward, averaged 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 71 games in 2021-22. But he has an 85 3PT rating, matching Harden and Maxey for tops on the roster. Tucker also has a physical presence on defense and can guard multiple positions while battling for rebounds despite being 37 years old. Offensively, he creates a matchup problem for opposing post players as a small-ball post player. And he brings a toughness the Sixers desperately need.
